Zoology department was established when the college came into existance. Zoology department was headed by Mr. S. T. Jamadar since 2009 till 2012 from where the responsibility of Head of the Department is shouldered by Dr. Mirza S. S. There are three full time teachers and one working on clock – hour basis. The full time teachers are doctorate while the one working on C. H. B. is Post graduate with B. Ed. degree. Every year excursion tour is conducted for Zoology students to take them from laboratory to land. So that they can take first-hand experience in collecting insects, in seeing the ocean, in laboratories of universities, in research institutions etc. which helps them to understand their surroundings as well as to cover from syllabus point of view. Superstitious is removed by lectures delivered occasionally.


Zoology department was established in August 2009. The objective to establish this department was to take advantage of its nitch. As our college is situated in Raigad region which comes under western ghats which is a hot spot of biodiversity, it is beneficial from geographical point of view as well as from student`s point of view who mostly belongs to farmers and fishermen families and possess land where either animal culture (fish, prawn, goat, poultry) and plantations (fruits, vegetables, rice and ) etc can take place. So, by keeping in mind, this subject is introduced to generate source of income besides job oppurtunities. As surrounding colleges dosen`t have T. Y( in Zoology) , Our college has this option which is very helpful from career & environmental point of view.

Zoology department has well equipped lab where a variety of museum specimen’s right from micro – organisms to bigger animals are preserved. Other equipments are electrophoresis unit, incubator, simple and dissecting microscopes, glassware, apparatus, personal computer etc.

The Zoology subject is introduced keeping in mind the rich biodiversity of western Ghats which helps students to look at surrounding, rich in resources and an applied component paper in TY Zoology is very helpful which is “Marine Science” which can generate income to students which teaches them about fishery . Another paper in TY is “Haematology” which aids in basic pathological technique and can serve to earn a job in Pathology Laboratory..

Careers in Zoology

As Zoology is the study of animals, As Zoology is the study of animals, right from single cell to multicellular organisms .Many museum specimens are present in Zoology laboratory in specific numbers, the student who possess Zoology have opportunities after graduation as Lab attendant, Pathologist,or can obtain job after D.Ed, B.Ed, DMLT,Diploma in fishery institutes or vetrenary sciene, in Companies and to run their own business etc. After P. G. (Zoology) they can join as Research fellows, teaching, fishery departments,r can appear for NET, SET, UPSC, MPSC exams if they want better career prospect.


  • Zoology department also create environment awareness programmes by conducting theme based poster making competition, nest building and distribution of earthen pots (to keep water) for conservation of birds.
  • Since three years guest lectures and scientists were called for giving information on careers in Fisheries, effect of over-fishing, vermi-composting and In – vitro fertilization were taking place.
  • Besides, Zoology teachers regularly release departmental magazines since two years, attend workshops to update themselves from syllabus point of view, publish research papers and guide students for “ Avishkar Research Convention”.
